Today, the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Board of Trustees signed off on a plan to develop an industrial hemp research program at the school. In 2017, then-Governor Rick Scott signed into law a bill permitted FAMU and the University of Florida to partner with private companies to conduct research on cultivating research projects on industrial hemp. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the university is on the verge of coming to an agreement with three companies; Future Farm Technologies, Green Earth Cannaceuticals, and Sunshine Hemp.
