Industrial hemp cultivation is coming to India. On July 16, 2018, the Indian state of Uttarakhand issued its first industrial hemp cultivation permit to the Indian Industrial Hemp Association (IIHA). The license is part of a pilot program in the district of Pauri Garhwal aimed at promoting hemp cultivation and further development of the industry. As the birthplace of the cannabis genus, there is already widespread demand for industrial hemp in India and investors are taking note. In late 2017, the industrial conglomerate Tata invested $1 million in company BOHECO, which was the first company in India to receive a license to research and cultivate hemp for medical purposes.
