Hemp is making its debut in the Hawkeye state. On May 13, 2019, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed into law the Iowa Hemp Act, a bill legalizing industrial hemp production in the state. The bill was passed with overwhelming bi-partisan support from both houses of government. Under the measure, hemp farmers can legally grow up to 40 acres of hemp. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will be responsible for promulgating rules for the state’s new hemp program.
