Iowa is on the cusp of legalizing industrial hemp. On April 25, 2019, the state Senate voted 49-1 to approve a bill legalizing industrial hemp. Earlier in the week, the House voted 95-3 to do the same. The bill will now go to the desk of Gov. Kim Reynolds for approval. If signed into law, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will be responsible for collecting licensing fees and regulating the program. Licensed farmers will be limited to 40 acres.
