A Kentucky lawmaker is taking steps to ensure that individuals transporting hemp remain unharrassed by law enforcement officers in the state. On Feb. 1, 2019, state Rep. Jay Reedy introduced HB 0274, a bill that would prevent law enforcement from seizing hemp or hemp-derived products based solely on their composition. The measure would also prevent police from conducting searches based on the smell of cannabis. According to WTVF, Reedy introduced the law because he feared that the state police might confuse hemp shipments for cannabis; which has already happened in both Oklahoma and Idaho.
