Applications for New York’s industrial hemp program are now available for the upcoming year, and this time they have a special category. For the forthcoming growing season, the state Department of Agriculture and Markets has added a new category on the application for those seeking to process hemp into cannabidiol (CBD). Although not the largest producer in the United States, New York has seen a growing interest in cultivating hemp among the state’s farmers. In 2017, farmers cultivated approximately 2,000 acres of hemp in the state and in 2018 that number increased to 3,500.
