Iowa is one step closer to legalizing hemp production. On April 16, 2019, the Iowa state Senate voted 49-1 to approve the Iowa Hemp Act. The vast majority of U.S. states have already legalized hemp production, making Iowa just one of seven states without an industrial hemp program. Under the proposed bill, licensed hemp growers would be allowed to cultivate up to 40 acres of hemp. The measure will now go to the state House of Representatives for approval.
