A pair of bi-partisan Senators are pressing the federal government for guidance and clarification regarding the hemp industry’s access to financial services. On April 2, 2019, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) sent letters to federal banking and financial regulators demanding action on the issue.
“While some banks have agreed to offer financial services to the growing hemp industry, many banks have not due to confusion over the legal status of hemp,” one letter reads. “Legal hemp businesses should be treated just like any other businesses and not discriminated against.”
