United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has accepted an invitation by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) to tour hemp farms in his home state. The invitation was offered during a Senate appropriations subcommittee on Thursday, in which Merkley and other lawmakers pressed Purdue to speed up the rule the USDA’s rulemaking process for hemp. Perdue responded by saying that he would like to expedite the process, but his current attention is focused on the dairy industry. According to Perdue, the USDA should have regulations in place in time for the 2020 growing season.
