The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued an advisory memo stating that, as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill, it will implement updated guidelines for registering hemp products. All applications must have been submitted on or after December 20, 2018, the date that the Farm Bill was signed into law. Applications submitted before this date will be rejected. The USPTO will also defer to the Food and Drug Administration with applications for hemp-based CBD and food products.
