Wisconsin hemp farmers are feeling the pinch after the state’s inaugural hemp harvest proves to be less than promising. According to the Wisconsin State Farmer, heavy summer rains allowed weeds to take root in many of the state’s fields, and because many farmers grew their hemp organically, entire crops were overrun with weeds. Because of the lackluster harvest, advocates fear that farmers will be turned off towards hemp as an alternative to growing corn or soybeans, which is becoming increasingly unprofitable thanks mainly to the U.S. trade war.
